Last Updated on November 21, 2025 by Muskan Sinha

Money earning games were extremely popular among the youth as they gave a chance for people to explore their gaming skills and monetize it as well. But since the new bill was passed regarding online gaming, all apps offering real money games were completely banned and discontinued. These apps were affecting the youth in a negative way and leading them to become prey to financial losses.

However, in response to the new bill, many apps redefined their layouts and came up with better alternatives to money earning games. Now most of them either offer virtual coins to participate in leagues, coupon codes or discounts which can be utilized in your online shopping. Offering the same thrilling gaming experience but with a twist, gamers can enjoy online games in a legal, secure and much safer environment.

Online Gaming Bill 2025 by the Indian Government

In August 2025, the Indian Government passed a new law called the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill which impacted all the websites and apps offering real money games. Under this new bill, games that involve real cash games in the form of betting, fantasy sports, play games and earn money, poker, rummy, luck or skill, were completely banned.

The bill only promotes apps and websites that offer education based gaming, esports, learning based games or social gaming. This meant that any platform that rewarded users with real cash for their wins or required users to pay for playing games could not continue further. They could face heavy fines and penalties if found using unauthorized means to promote online money earning games. Now, only apps and websites that are RNG certified can continue to function with revised gaming features that involve no real cash.

Reasons why online money earning games were banned

  • Negative Impact on Youth – Most of the youth were drawn into this pool of online games that it started affecting their mental health and had them become addicted to gambling. Most of them started suffering from stress, anxiety and depression due to the financial debt they got stuck in.
  • Financial Fraud and Money Laundering – Apart from gaming, the results showed that most online gaming platforms were being used for illegal transactions, raising concerns about financial fraud and money laundering.
  • False Advertisements – These online earning games were promoted by presenting a false narrative to the audience. Most of them portrayed that earning money online through gambling is safe, easy and risk free. They encouraged people that anyone can win cash up to Rs 1 crore by investing a small amount.
  • Financial Debts and Losses – These online games caused people to lose huge amounts of money, resulting in them being stuck in financial debt. In order to recover previous losses, they were investing larger sums of money which further worsened their financial condition. Many people even committed suicide after being unable to recover from their loss.
